Kookaburras in our trees

Kookaburras are native to Australia and New Guinea. They typically grow between 28 and 47 cm long and weigh about 300g. Their name comes from the Wiradjuri word “guuguubarra,” which mimics their call. They have a loud distinctive call that can be heard around sunset and sunrise at Bimbi Park. A family has lived at Bimbi Park with a few nests in the bottom block since we’ve been here and may steal a sausage off your plate or BBQ.

Likelihood to see them: Very High.

Where to see them: Around Bimbi Park.

Time: All day but are vocal sunset and sunrise.
