Great Ocean Road Iconic Attractions

The Great Ocean Road is home to some of the most stunning attractions in the Otways. Iconic spots like the 12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, and London Bridge showcase the rugged beauty of the coastline. These natural wonders are must-see highlights along the Great Ocean Road, offering unforgettable experiences,  scenery and photo opportunities.

These are the main ones, there are lots of hikes to other lookouts, enjoy exploring the coast.

I’ve put together an Itinerary for a day trip from Bimbi Park to see all listed and Johanna Beach -NOT FOR SWIMMING- on the way through. You could also stop at Yatsies or the Perch in Lavers Hill for a snack.

1. The Gibson Steps

The Gibson Steps offer a unique coastal experience. Carved into the cliffside, these steps take you down to the beach, where you can stand at the base of towering limestone cliffs and look up at the enormous rock formations rising from the ocean. It’s one of those spots where you really get a sense of how small you are against the power of nature. The views from the beach are unbeatable, especially as you watch the waves roll in and see the nearby 12 Apostles from a whole new perspective. The Gibson Steps are a must for anyone wanting to get up close and personal with the dramatic beauty of the Otways coastline.

2. The 12 Apostles

The 12 Apostles are one of Australia’s most iconic natural landmarks. These limestone stacks rise from the Southern Ocean, sculpted by wind and water over millions of years. Although only eight remain standing today, they are particularly stunning at sunrise or sunset when the light casts shadows across the ocean. The 12 Apostles offer breathtaking views and unforgettable photo opportunities, showcasing the dramatic power of nature along the Great Ocean Road.

3. Loch Ard Gorge

Loch Ard Gorge is one of those spots that takes your breath away. The towering cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and sandy beach make it a must-visit along the Great Ocean Road. The gorge is named after the shipwreck of the Loch Ard in 1878, and you can really feel the drama of the story as you walk the trails or explore the beach below. Whether you’re here for the history or just to soak up the beauty, Loch Ard Gorge is an unforgettable stop in the Otways. From the car park you can also walk to The Razorback Lookout, Tom and Eva Lookout and The Island Arch Lookout.

4. London Bridge

London Bridge, also known as London Arch, is a natural rock formation along the Great Ocean Road. Once a double-arched bridge, the structure partially collapsed in 1990, leaving a single arch standing. The dramatic coastal views and sheer cliffs make it an incredible spot to visit, especially with the waves crashing below. It’s one of those places that really shows off the raw power of nature, and it’s a great photo stop on your Otways adventure. Whether you’re here to admire the geology or just take in the scenery, London Bridge is a memorable sight along the coasst.

5. The Grotto

The Grotto is a hidden gem along the Great Ocean Road, offering a peaceful and unique experience. This natural rock formation is part cave, part archway, and part sinkhole, creating a serene pool of water that reflects the rugged cliffs and sky above. Unlike the more dramatic coastal landmarks, the Grotto feels like a quiet retreat from the wild waves and towering cliffs of the Otways. A short walk takes you down to a viewing platform where you can look out over the calm waters and take in the tranquil atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot to stop and appreciate the softer, more serene side of the coastline.

6. Bay Of Martyrs

The Bay of Martyrs is an absolute hidden gem along the Great Ocean Road. With stunning coastal views and dramatic cliffs, it’s the perfect spot for those who want to escape the crowds and soak in the raw beauty of the ocean. The untouched, rugged coastline feels almost untouched by time, with breathtaking lookouts that let you take in the vast expanse of the Southern Ocean. Whether you’re walking along the shore, exploring the rock pools, or just sitting back and watching the waves crash against the cliffs, the Bay of Martyrs is an experience that stays with you long after you leave. It’s a spot where nature speaks for itself—wild, peaceful, and utterly beautiful.

    7. Bay of Islands

The Bay of Islands is a breathtaking and less-crowded alternative to the 12 Apostles along the Great Ocean Road. This stunning stretch of coastline features towering limestone stacks, rugged cliffs, and vibrant blue waters. The dramatic rock formations seem to rise straight from the ocean, creating a postcard-perfect view at every turn. Unlike some of the busier landmarks, the Bay of Islands offers a more tranquil experience, allowing you to take in the raw beauty of the coast without the crowds. It’s a place where nature feels untouched and awe-inspiring, making it a must-see stop for anyone exploring the Otways.

This is the most wonderful camping ground and caravan park! Different types of accommodation to suit everyone. I stayed in an old style caravan. I stayed in an old style caravan. It was such a delight, clean, super comfortable bed with donna and hotel style linen, nice and warm everything you needed in the kitchen. The toilet block was immaculately clean. The wildlife was wonderful and so was the service. I highly recommend this magical place.

We used a powered site. The amenities are modern and clean. The manager is both friendly and a great source of ideas for activities. We spent four nights there and that was barely time to explore this beautiful area. Highly recommended. PS We could see the self contained units and they looked terrific.

Well, some other parks may have more facilities or larger campground. This park was so much more natural and beautiful. Additionally, all of the facilities were clean and bright and usable. To top that off, doing the koala hunt every day was the highlight of our entire journey. we managed to find Koalas and we checked on half of them Multiple times every day to see how they were doing. I would recommend this park to everyone!
We've stayed here twice now and loved it. Quiet spot away from the busy-ness of the Great Ocean Road. Spotted 14 Koalas too! A relaxing spot with easy day trips to waterfalls and not far from Apollo Bay.

We recently enjoyed a delightful visit to Bimbi Park with our family. The park is impeccably maintained, seamlessly blending the beauty of nature with comfort. Our accommodations were clean and cozy, making us feel at home. The area was both tranquil and secure, perfect for family activities. The bushwalking trails were a highlight, featuring breathtaking views and being easily navigable for children. Additionally, the staff was exceptionally friendly and supportive. We faced a car issue during our stay, and the staff went above and beyond to assist us, using their vehicle to charge our car's battery. They ensured our problem was resolved before leaving, which we greatly appreciated. We highly recommend Bimbi Park for a family retreat that offers both relaxation and adventure in a peaceful environment.
